Author's POV
The Sharma residence felt different that evening. The air was thick with the scent of jasmine and the unspoken weight of twelve years. When the doorbell rang, Neeraj and Kumud stood together, a united front facing a past they had once tried to bury.
The meeting was surprisingly cordial. Swarna and Manav entered with a quiet dignity, and behind them stood Dhruv-no longer the caught boy in a school uniform, but a man with steady shoulders and a calm gaze. The initial minutes were heavy with a lingering awkwardness, especially between Neeraj and Dhruv. The memory of the principal's office and the harsh ultimatums sat like a ghost at the table.
Noticing Dhruv's stiff posture, Neeraj placed a steady hand on the young man's shoulder. "The past is a country we don't live in anymore, Dhruv," Neeraj said softly, his voice full of a father's grace. "We've all grown. Let's focus on the present."
The tension snapped, replaced by the clinking of tea cups and a sweet, grounded discussion about life, medicine, and the future.
The next morning, while the medical camp hummed with its usual chaos, Neeraj called Manvi. When he told her about the match-specifically about Dhruv Mishra-the world seemed to tilt on its axis. She didn't wait. She marched straight to Dhruv's cabin, her heart hammering a frantic rhythm against her ribs.
"Why did you do it?" she demanded, breathless,. "Why did you send a match to my house without even asking me?"
Dhruv didn't look up from his files at first. He signed a document, capped his pen, and then finally met her eyes with an intensity that made her catch her breath. "Because I love you, Manvi," he said. His voice wasn't shaking. It was the most normal, certain thing he had ever said.
Manvi was stunned into a rare silence. "You... you didn't even check if I was okay with it. You just sent it."
"I made my decision, and I told my parents," Dhruv replied, standing up and grabbing his stethoscope. "The decision is now in your hands. You tell your parents yours." He offered a small, knowing tilt of his head and walked out, leaving her standing in the center of the room in a daze.
Manvi's POV
I stood there staring at the empty doorway, my brain struggling to process the reality of what just happened.
Where did he go? Where is that shy, introvert guy who used to hide his feelings behind subtle laughs and silent glares? How did he just say 'I love you' as if he were discussing a patient's heart rate?
For years, I thought it was all in my head. I thought I was the only one holding onto the embers of a childhood flame while he had moved on. We haven't even talked properly in months, and now this? A rishta? An open declaration?
He likes me. No, he said he loves me. My heart did a somersault that felt like a caffeine rush. I didn't waste another second. I pulled out my phone and called Papa.
I could hear the nerves in his voice, and Maa was clearly hovering in the background, terrified I'd snap again. "Papa?" I said, a smile breaking across my face that I couldn't hide. "It's a yes. Tell them it's a yes."
Author's POV
By evening, the news had traveled. The "yes" had been delivered from the Sharmas to the Mishras, and finally back to a very satisfied Dhruv.
As the sun began to set over the camp, a group of doctors and nurses approached Dhruv near the outpatient ward. "Hey, Dr. Dhruv! We're heading to the city for a success party for the camp. You're coming, right?"
Dhruv adjusted his watch, a hidden spark of mischief in his eyes. "Can't make it," he said casually. "I have a date planned with my fiancée."
Behind him, Manvi was taking a sip of her coffee. At the word fiancée, she coughed violently, nearly spilling the drink. Her eyes widened. It felt so strange, so surreal.Earlier she had been the one chasing, the one wooing, the one making all the effort. But now? It was a total role reversal. He was the one taking the lead, claiming her before the world.
The colleagues turned to her, grinning. "What about you, Manvi? Surely you're coming?"
Manvi wiped her mouth, her cheeks burning. She looked at Dhruv, who was watching her with a challenge in his eyes. "I... I'm also busy. I can't come."
As the group left, whispering and giggling, the camp grew quiet. Dhruv stepped closer to her, his shadow falling over her.
"Chalein, Mannu Sahiba?" he asked, his voice low and silky.
Manvi felt herself fluster, a sensation she wasn't used to. She just followed him into the evening, her heart finally coming home.
The chase is over, but the journey is just beginning. How does this new, bold Dhruv feel to you?
