Chapter 23: The Dawn of a New Era

Veerendra's POV

I watched as Diya adjusted the heavy, suffocating drape of her royal lehenga. Though she wore the crown with unmatched grace, I could see the slight slump in her shoulders, the way the massive gold ornaments weighed down her free spirit. She was a bird accustomed to flying across skies I couldn't fathom, yet here she was, binding her wings for the sake of my kingdom.

I walked over to her and took her hands in mine. "I have called the royal tailor to the palace today, Diya. I want you to give them your designs. You can stitch whatever modern attires you want. There will be no rules, no bounds in this palace for what you choose to wear."

Diya's eyes widened in sheer surprise. She looked at me as if searching for a hidden jest, but finding only absolute sincerity, she hesitated. "But Rajasa... for the 12th century, wouldn't it be too bold? I am a Queen now. Won't it affect your governance when your wife alone doesn't follow the expectations of a royal bride?"

A soft smile touched my lips, and I stepped closer, wrapping my arms around her waist.

"You left your entire world behind, Diya. You travelled through centuries, crossed the boundaries of time itself just to choose me," I said, my voice thick with emotion. "If you can sacrifice an entire era for our love, can't I even make my Queen comfortable enough to choose her own attires?"

"But what will the palace people say?" she whispered, the deeply ingrained fear of this era's judgement reflecting in her voice. "What will the ministers think?"

"It is your choice to decide what you wear, and the same goes for all the people of Vijaygarh," I declared firmly. I looked out at the vast kingdom stretching beyond our balcony. "Before you entered my life, Diya, I never truly knew how women felt. No one ever spoke. The women of the court lowered their gaze, masked their suffering, and accepted their silence as destiny. But when I met you, and when I finally understood your world, I realized how suffocating it must be for a woman when she is left unheard, unseen, and tightly controlled."

I looked back into her bright eyes, holding her gaze with all the gravity of a ruling monarch.

"I would never be a good king if I cannot understand fifty percent of my population's problems, and if I just cater to the desires of men. A kingdom cannot thrive if its women are bound by suffocating chains of expectation. Change begins here, in our palace. Seeing me stand by your choice, the kings of other kingdoms will also realize the truth. They will see that a Queen's strength lies in her freedom, not her silence."

Diya's POV

I stood frozen, my heart pounding so loudly against my ribs that I wonder if Veer could hear it.

I never, ever thought a king from the 12th century could change this much for his queen. Even though I am a modern girl who grew up breathing the air of independence, the weight of this era had slowly been creeping in. Looking at the rigid customs, the strict traditions, and the sharp eyes of the court, I had jolted for a second. I had almost convinced myself to completely bury my modern clothing, resigned to spending the rest of my life trapped inside this traditional, heavy queen attire.

But my King... my beautiful, fierce Rajasa... he didn't see the rigid world. He didn't care about centuries-old rules. He just cared about me.

He had noticed. While the whole world was busy admiring the grand Queen of Vijaygarh, Veer had seen the restlessness hidden beneath my heavy lehenga. He had seen the fatigue on my face when I sat on the golden throne. And instead of forcing me to fit into a mold, he shattered the mold entirely. He gave me the ultimate power—the choice to design my own attire, to be exactly who I am, without fear.

This was the beginning of a massive historical change, a revolution that my Rajasa had brought with a single, loving command.

Tears brimmed in my eyes, blurring his handsome, determined face. I reached up, my fingers trembling as I cupped his jaw, feeling the slight stubble beneath my palms.

"Rajasa..." my voice choked up with an overwhelming surge of love. "In my world, we read about heroes in history books. But none of them could ever match the man standing in front of me. You aren't just a king who rules over land; you rule over time itself with the sheer size of your heart. Coming to 12th century made me realize, I have found a version of me that is safer, wilder, and more loved than I ever thought possible. You are my sanctuary, Rajasa. Always."

As he pulled me into his chest, holding me against the steady, reassuring beat of his heart, I knew. The time machine didn't just bring me to the past—it brought me a man who is ready to fight the world for me..
