The rarest form of care is found in the confidant who lets you process your pain on your own terms while remaining your constant motivation.
The afternoon light filtered through the long college corridor, casting skewed shadows against the lockers.
Riya stood leaning against the wall, her shoulders rigid, staring blankly at the floor. Beside her stood Isha, listening in a quiet, painful silence as Riya poured out the suffocating weight of her helplessness.
The memory of that horrific midnight intrusion still echoed in her bones-the cold feeling of power effortlessly crushing justice.
From the far end of the hallway, Yash caught sight of them. He froze for a moment, seeing the absolute numbness in Riya's posture and the deep worry etched across Isha's face.
Sensing the heavy cloud hanging over them, he slowly approached. The moment his shadow fell over the wall, Riya snapped her mouth shut, instantly pulling her emotional walls back up.
Yash looked at Riya, his expression dead serious.
"I know there is more to the picture of you withdrawing the case, Riya. Did they put pressure on you? Tell me the truth."
Riya kept her gaze fixed on the floor, her jaw clenched, refusing to say a word.
"If you are afraid to face them, then I will step in," Yash pressed on, his voice cracking with protective anger.
"I will file a case against them myself and fight.Raghav Uncle is incredibly dear to me as well-he is a father figure in my life. You don't have to carry this alone."
At the mention of fighting back, a flash of absolute terror pierced through Riya. Images of that night flooded her mind-the terrifying clicking sound of Pralay's gun, the cold barrel pressed against her forehead, and then the ultimate horror of that weapon being pointed directly at a sleeping, innocent Sunny.
Panic overtook her grief. She couldn't let Yash put himself in their crosshairs. She couldn't let anyone else get hurt because of her.
"I don't want your help!" Riya snapped, her voice suddenly sharp and defensive.
She looked directly into his eyes, her expression fierce but desperate.
"Nor do I want your pity, Yash. I can fight my own battles, and I can even win them!"
Yash didn't flinch at her anger. He stepped a fraction closer, his tone softening into something deeply earnest.
"Not all battles need to be fought alone, Riya."
Those few words hit the cracks in her armor. Riya's eyes instantly filled with hot, unshed tears, her vision blurring as she fought back the sob rising in her throat.
Seeing Riya on the absolute verge of breaking down, Isha quickly stepped between them.
"Yash... Yash, please," Isha interrupted gently, giving him a warning look. "This entire case conversation triggers her right now. Let's just... not have this discussion today."
Yash looked at Riya's tear-filled eyes, realizing his push was only adding to her immense distress. He let out a heavy breath, nodded quietly, and walked away down the corridor.
Later that afternoon, Yash found Isha sitting alone near the campus courtyard. He walked up to her, his hands jammed into his pockets, lines of worry creasing his forehead.
"Is she all right?" he asked quietly.
Isha looked up, offering a sad, understanding smile.
"The best thing we can do for her right now, Yash, is just to be her listeners."
Yash opened his mouth to speak, but Isha gently raised a hand.
"Sometimes, when people are right in the middle of a massive mess, they don't want to figure everything out immediately. They need their time to process the pain. And the best thing we can do for them isn't provide a sudden solution... it's just being there for them. Being the listener. Being the warm hand that gives them solace in the dark."
Yash absorbed her words, the tension slowly leaving his shoulders. He nodded tightly.
"I understand. But just... let her know that we all are with her. Always."
"I will," Isha promised softly.
Deep down, Riya was operating under an immense, invisible strain. She was terrified of the Rathores, knowing how easily they could dismantle her family's safety.
She knew she had to keep things completely quiet to prevent anything from worsening-at least until she found a real, foolproof way to defeat Pralay Rathore and punish Ritik.
But in the back of her mind, a fierce spark remained entirely unbroken. She hadn't surrendered. She had simply put a comma to her battle, but never a period.
Meanwhile, back at the households, life was forcing a different kind of maturity.
Arohi sat at the kitchen counter, quietly stirring a cup of tea while talking with her mother, Sunandha. The house was peaceful, a stark contrast to the storm their friends were weathering. Sunandha looked at her daughter affectionately, pausing before she spoke.
"It's been quite a while since you and Sandeep have been knowing each other, Arohi," Sunandha said gently, placing her hand over her daughter's. "What is your decision on marriage with him?"
Arohi paused, looking down at her mother's hand, and then met her eyes. Her expression carried a calm, grounded weight that hadn't been there a year ago.
"Mamma, it is not about marriage," Arohi said, her voice steady and deliberate.
"It is about choosing a partner worth building a life with."
Sunandha's breath caught slightly. She looked at her daughter, deeply surprised by the quiet conviction in her words. She realized, with a sudden wave of pride, just how mature her young daughter had truly become.
Arohi offered a reassuring smile. "Things are going well till now. But I just need a little more time to decide."
Sunandha smiled back, squeezing her hand warmly. "Take all the time you need, beta."
As the weeks bled into months, the tight-knit circle of friends made sure that Riya was never left isolated.
Yash, Isha, Shivansh, Purvi, and Akshat formed an invisible shield around her, constantly offering their presence, their laughter, and their unspoken support.
Sensing their fierce loyalty, Riya actively forced her mind away from the nightmares. She began focusing entirely on the problems she actually had the power to solve first-her family's finances and her father's ongoing, expensive medical treatments.
With the final year moving at a relentless pace, everyone's paths began to branch out.
Akshat had intentionally chosen to sit out of the college placement drives. His heart and focus were completely consumed by his music band; he was determined to take the risky leap and build a real career on the stage.
Purvi, on the other hand, spent every waking hour buried under preparation books, her entire focus locked onto cracking the highly competitive CAT exam.
When the placement results for the other premium companies finally came out, Isha secured an incredibly prestigious offer from Pemberton company . It was an elite role that she had earned purely on her own merit.
Riya, however, hadn't secured a single offer yet. The sheer trauma of Raghav's incident, combined with the midnight nightmares that routinely woke her up drenched in sweat, had severely affected her academic performance and interview focus.
But Yash refused to let her slip through the cracks. Throughout the semester, he became her constant, unwavering motivator. He was a new version of himself-responsible, grounded, and fiercely protective of her future.
Whenever he saw her drifting away into her thoughts on campus, he would march over, physically pull her into their study circle, and scold her with a bright, teasing grin.
"Ooye! Idhar aa, kaha ja rahi hai?" he would say, pointing at the empty chair beside him.
"Padayi karni hai abhi hamein! (We have to study right now!) I'm not letting you slack off."
He kept her grounded, constantly pushing her to focus on securing a job, refusing to let her lose her spark. Watching this side of him-this steady, reliable anchor-something shifted deep within Riya.
It was a new facet of Yash she hadn't seen before, and now, looking at him through the lens of her healing heart, she realized she couldn't unsee it even if she tried.
The grueling fourth-year first-semester examinations came and went in a blur of sleepless nights and high anxiety.
Immediately following the finals, Purvi finally appeared for her high-stakes CAT exam, poured all her effort into the paper, and walked out of the hall in a daze.
Around the same time, Riya attended a major campus placement drive, giving it her absolute everything despite the exhaustion lining her face.
Now, the waiting period had arrived.
The two girls sat cross-legged on the bed, the silence in the room thick with anticipation.
"Kab aayenge results interview ka?"
(When will the interview results come?)
Purvi asked, her voice tight as she nervously chewed her thumbnail.
Riya swallowed hard, her heart pounding against her ribs. "Parso."
(The day after tomorrow.)
Purvi let out a long, shaky breath, her eyes wide with uncontainable anxiety.
"Mera bhi, bro... pata nahi kya hoga."
(Mine too, bro... I don't know what's going to happen.)
In the quiet room, surrounded by the weight of their uncertain futures, both girls reached out and gripped each other's hands tightly-holding onto each other in a state of utmost tension, waiting for the storm to clear.
